Powerful videos capture the emotional moment Souheil Hamwi sets foot in Lebanon after spending 33 years in Syrian prisons, including the infamous Sednaya Prison.

Hamwi was among thousands of Lebanese kidnapped during the Assad regime’s rule in Syria, a time marked by the random abduction and imprisonment of over 10,000 Lebanese men, women, and children – many targeted for political reasons.

His release comes after the regime’s fall, shedding light on the harrowing fates of those who disappeared. This reunion serves as a stark reminder of the decades-long suffering endured by countless Lebanese families.

He told media that he learned of his charge only 20 years after he was taken – which was because he was affiliated with the Lebanese Forces. He said he “I lived years of oppression, deprivation, and injustice, and I never expected to return to my home one day.”
