After nearly 5 years of restrictions, Lebanese exports are officially making their way back to Saudi Arabia.

The decision follows a move by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to lift the ban that was imposed in 2021 over drug smuggling concerns. Since then, Lebanese goods, especially agricultural products, had been cut off from one of their most important regional markets.

Before the ban, Saudi Arabia was Lebanon’s biggest export destination. Farmers and producers across the country relied heavily on that route, particularly for fruits, vegetables, and other fresh goods that don’t have long shelf lives.

The reopening now means Lebanese products can return to Saudi shelves, bringing back a key trade channel that was missing for years. For many in the agriculture sector, it’s a long-awaited relief that could help revive exports and stabilize incomes.

The move comes after tighter inspections and security coordination at Lebanese borders, aimed at addressing the issues that initially led to the suspension.
